Biography

On May 3, 2001, we bought the Red Barn Luncheonette, a Columbia County fixture on Route 9H in Ghent. A soda fountain luncheonette, The Red Barn had been in seasonal operation from May to October since 1957. Known for chicken salad sandwiches, burgers, and some fish filets, the real attraction was the made-on-premises homemade ice cream.

When we first put the key in the door and opened the restaurant that May, we had no idea of the journey ahead. Very quickly, we began to change the menu to American classics, well prepared with the freshest ingredients. It took us a while to balance staffing, food complexity and dining room service to find our rhythm.

Because we participate in everything from shopping for ingredients to prepping and preparing the food for service, we’re not open when we can’t be there to insure our food is at its best. Since 2003 we have been open only on weekends from May through December.
